Scholl-Peters House -1855

Scholl-Peter-HausThis home is a good example of the use of fachwerk, the German settlers’ preferred building technique of thick timber frames filled in with rammed earth and mortar. The house is representative of the style, with pine ceilings and floors, cypress shingles, and doors lined up to provide ventilation.

Note the slanted chimney–designed to keep the stove from blocking a window.
